シルバーのインレイが入った鼈甲の小銭入れ（19世紀）
知人のアンティークディーラーより依頼を受けた、19世紀製の鼈甲（べっこう）の古銭入れ。 背面のカバーは外れ、表面の鼈甲は霧がかかったように白く曇っていました。
これは、直射日光の当たる場所に長期間展示されていたことによる紫外線ダメージが原因と考えられます。あわせて乾燥も進んでいたため、背面を固定していた膠（にかわ）が結晶化し、剥離に至ったのでしょう。 剥がれた箇所は膠（アニマルグルー）を用いて再接着し、表面を丁寧に磨き上げました。その結果、鼈甲特有の美しい透明感が蘇り、あしらわれたシルバーの輝きも見事に戻りました。
A Turtleshell purse with silver inlay (19th century)
I was asked by an antique dealer I know to repair a 19th century turtleshell purse. The back cover had come off, and the turtleshell surface was cloudy and white, like it was covered in mist.
This was thought to be due to UV damage caused by being displayed in direct sunlight for an extended period of time. As the purse had also dried out, the glue that had secured the back of the coin purse had crystallized, causing it to peel off. The peeled areas were reattached using animal glue, and the surface was carefully polished. As a result, the beautiful transparency unique to turtleshell was restored, and the shine of the silver accents was also beautifully restored.
